TIMOTHY DOHERTY HONORED WITH TWO DISTINCT AWARDS
Minneapolis, MN – November 9, 2009. Timothy E. Doherty, owner and chairman of Minneapolis-based Doherty Employment Group, was inducted into the American Staffing Association (ASA) Leadership Hall of Fame and honored with the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations’ (NAPEO) Michaeline A. Doyle award. Timothy Doherty is the first and only person to have ever received the top awards by two distinct industries in the same year.
The ASA Leadership Hall of Fame Award was created in 1985 to recognize outstanding individual contributions made through dedicated service to ASA and the staffing industry. Since that time, 36 distinguished leaders have been honored with this award. This award was presented to Timothy Doherty during the national ASA meeting in October.
“Tim has a remarkable record of volunteerism and leadership,” said Linda Carchidi, 2008 Chairman of ASA, president of JFC Staffing Associates and inductor of Tim into the Leadership Hall of Fame. “When Tim was Chairman of ASA in 1997, his objectives included introducing an insurance solutions plan that provided affordable health insurance for temporary workers. His vision set the framework for the future development of training programs that ASA offers to its members today.”
The Michaeline A. Doyle annual award honors the late Michaeline A. Doyle, one of the pioneers of the PEO industry. Doyle was devoted to the education and professional development of the PEO industry, which currently serves approximately 3 million working Americans in small and medium-sized businesses.
“Known for his casual and attentive manner, Tim is regarded as a thinker, always considering the long-term effects of the industry’s actions beyond the immediate concerns,” said David Day, president of Management 2000 and NAPEO’s Midwest Leadership Council, as he announced the award. “His contributions to the industry are many. He has left lasting impressions by taking on the image and reputation of the industry to build PEO market share. With his leadership, strategic plans were put into place to address fundamental perceptions and concerns on both the state and national levels to promote a favorable industry image.”
Timothy holds a BS degree in Business from the University of Minnesota. Tim is past national President of both NAPEO (www.napeo.org) and Employer Services Assurance Corporation (www.esacorp.com). In addition, he served as national President of ASA (www.staffingtoday.net) from 1996 - 1997. Along with his wife, Valerie, Tim was awarded the 2008 University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management’s Entrepreneurs of the Year award. Recently, Doherty Employer Services and Doherty Staffing Solutions were awarded two prestigious awards by the Minnesota Family Business award committee.
